Effects of Lagos Lockdown: Our Trip to Nigeria

Lockdown in Lagos

What was supposed to be a short-term trip has morphed into a full-on expedition. Our team has been grounded in Nigeria for over a month and still unclear about when we’ll return.

In the meantime, there is an increasing sense of desperation amongst the local people. Since President Buhari gave lockdown orders for key areas throughout the country, people have found it nearly impossible to live their day-to-day lives.

Lagos Before Lockdown

Lagos on March 30, 2020 before lockdown.

The ever-popular transportation system in Lagos—which is the lifeblood to nearly all workers, has been completely shut down.

Women like Faith (preferred not to be photographed) have not been able to get to work for the last 3 weeks. She travels via Uber from the Berger area of Lagos & makes a living through her house cleaning business.

“I’ve had to call to apologize to them for not being able to get to work. My children have to eat—I’m praying for a quick solution.”

There’s news of rioting and looting around densely populated areas. People need to work. People need to feed themselves.

Though things have been dismal, we’ve been surprisingly inspired by the benevolence of some private citizens who daily open their homes to feed the community.

Our prayers are with the people of Nigeria as we are alongside them waiting for relief. We are grateful for the safety & wellbeing of each member of our team.

We are actively looking to support organizations that are alleviating the plight of women and children in Lagos during this pandemic. Please feel free to contact us via email skin@awomnaturals.com Subject line: Women’s COVID Relief
