To all the girl dads,

Thank you. 

For not just being there, but for being present.

For taking the time to understand your daughters, nurturing their personalities, and watering their self-esteem. 

For setting the tone.

For making sure that her first inter-gender relationship wasn’t rooted in disappointment and neglect.

For being a man

For interrogating boyfriends

For being someone to count on

For protecting, defending,

For security

For unconditional, healthy, genuine, non-destructive love

A father’s presence can be just as damaging as their absence in a girl’s life.

Thank you for being an asset, not a liability.

For not making your daughters feel like an obligation

Or a shackle keeping you in your marriage

For crying at graduations, fighting at games.

For putting them on game

For being everything mine wasn’t.
